How can we get kids excited about gardening? A garden story is a great place to start! We have two books to inspire kids to take a stab at growing their own food.
I LOVE STRAWBERRIES
Through Jolie’s comical scrapbook-style journal entries, young readers will learn how she convinces the “old people” (aka her parents) to let her grow her own strawberries. Growing strawberries is a lot of work and responsibility, but Jolie is ready with the help of her faithful rabbit Munchy! Together they find out just how delicious, rewarding, and sometimes complicated it can be to grow your own food.
Will this book encourage your kids to try growing strawberries? It worked for our publisher's kids.
RIGHT THIS VERY MINUTE: a table-to-farm book about food and farming
While the majority of this book shows off many different types of farms, at the end kids are encouraged to take a turn at farming! Cultivating curiosity in where food comes from will help young children get excited to plant their own!
Need some help getting started growing food? Check out your state's extension's website or Master Gardener website to see what grows well and when to plant it.
